Mark Maurer is the next SSB President
The following is a letter from Mark:
Participants of South Sound Baseball,
I am honored that the SSB Board of Directors has faith in me, and entrusted me with the helm of SSB. I am humbled when I think back & remember that my passion for baseball began over a decade ago by volunteering as a parent helper on my son’s first grade team. I became the team batting practice pitcher, which morphed into Assistant Coach duties, then into Manager, District Director, and eventually here, SSB president. I am eternally grateful that my son’s first grade Manager asked me to volunteer. I receive a sense of satisfaction & fulfillment from volunteering in youth baseball & SSB that isn’t possible anywhere else.
The first thing I’d like to do is to thank Kyle for the relentless dedication & loyalty he has given SSB, and the high standard he has maintained over these past 2 years in serving as president of SSB. He has set a high bar & given me a fine example in which to follow. SSB added the Palomino U LEAGUE during his tenure & now provides an opportunity for a player to compete on the same team from kindergarten all the way through high school. SSB also added the Annual SSB Kick-Off Classic Tournament. And in 2009, Fallball was bigger & better than ever.
We wish to continue the work he has begun, and plan on adding another annual opt-in tournament near the middle of the spring season. We plan to add more focus on coach education so that we can provide our participants with the most qualified coaching possible. We plan on improving our venues such as adding portable mounds at some of our fields. And we wish to continue assisting those participants who are challenged with the economic down turn.
I’d also like to reiterate something Kyle has been adamant about. None of this will be possible without you. We need new volunteers to step up & prepare to be the next generation of leadership for SSB. We need the batting practice pitchers to step up & be the next Assistant Coach, the Assistant Coach to step up & be the next Manager, and the Manager to step up & be the next Assistant District Director. I encourage you to volunteer at the next level, by contacting your Manager, District Director, or me at mark@ssbaseball.net.
Respectfully,
Mark Maurer
President
